Healthwatch Stockport Health & Wellbeing event visits the heart of Marple
From healthy bodies and happy minds to dying well, nothing was off the agenda in Marple last week.
Residents got a taste of the many services and support available to keep Stockport healthy and happy at the latest Healthwatch Stockport Network Event.
Organisations from around the borough descended on Marple Cricket & Squash Club on Thursday 17th May for the ‘Learn more about Health & Wellbeing in Stockport!’ showcase.
The event coincided with Mental Health Week, with Stockport & District Mind and Stockport Progress & Recovery Centre on the stalls, as well as Dying Matters Week and the Specialist Palliative Care Team from Stepping Hill Hospital came to raise awareness.
Visitors also got their blood pressure checked on the day with the help of the Public Health team and took part in some stress free yoga with Susan Rodway-Hall from Yoga Therapy Stockport.
Workshops on topics of interest to people in Stockport came from Signpost for Carers on advice for carers, while Healthwatch Stockport also took the time out to introduce people to its services, which include helping to make sure public views on health and social care services are heard.
Other organisations taking part were Age UK Stockport, Dementia Friendly Marple, Disability Stockport, Life Leisure, Marple & District Rambling, Park Run Marple, Seashell Trust, SelfHelp Services, Stroke Information, Stockport Car Scheme, Stockport CP Society and Walthew House.
Visitors on the day included William Wragg, MP for the Hazel Grove Constituency, who took time to speak to all the attendees and praised the event.
Sue Carroll, Healthwatch Stockport Chair, said “We were delighted to welcome such a wonderful array of stall holders and speakers for our event in Marple. We hope visitors found it both informative and fun.
“At Healthwatch Stockport we endeavour to promote all the great health and wellbeing services and support our town has to offer.
“Thank you to all our stall holders and speakers who helped make it a great atmosphere on the day and those who attended. We hope to see you all at our next event in July.”
