New Walk-In Vaccine Centre Opens in Merseyway

A new vaccination walk in centre is being launched at the One Stockport Hub in the town centre offering free Covid vaccinations without the need to book.
The new walk-in at Mersey Square, Stockport, SK1 1RA, is close to the bus and train stations, and opens at 10am on Thursday, 18 November. It will offer free Covid vaccinations every week on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 10am until 3pm, each week until Saturday ,18 December.
Every resident eligible for a vaccination will be welcome to just drop in without the need to book an appointment. It will include boosters for those people who are eligible, having had their last dose at least six months ago; vaccinations for 12-15-year-olds who may have missed theirs at school, or during home-schooled commitments; and 16-18-year-olds needing their Covid jab. And if you still need your first or second dose, please come along.
As well as its handy location for public transport, visitors can also access numerous amenities, shops and services.
Running the walk-in involves a great many volunteers as well as paid professionals, and members of the St John Ambulance are joining the members of public giving up their time to help roll out this service.
Dr Cath Munro, Chair of NHS Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “As we head into winter, people want to better protect themselves and their families, friends and colleagues, so we do expect a high demand for this new walk-in service.
“I believe that Stockport people understand the current risks of Covid, and with no booking needed, they will find the One Stockport Hub a convenient venue. The majority of people want to ensure they look after themselves – and those they love – by getting vaccinated. It is a critical action we can all take in no time to minimise the risks of catching Covid, or passing it on.
“I am delighted we’ve been able to secure this new walk-in service and I’d like to thank the staff and volunteers including St John Ambulance for making this possible.”
Councillor Jude Wells, Cabinet Member for Adult Care and Health at Stockport Council, said: “After almost two years of having to get used to living with Covid, I am certain that most people understand why getting vaccinated is the best thing anyone can do – for themselves, their family, friends and colleagues.
“The new walk-in offers a quick, easy and accessible way of letting eligible people and children in Stockport to get their first, second or booster jabs. It is an essential service for us, and I hope we will ramp up our collective protection this winter as a result.”
