Warm Spaces Grants

Could you help to open a warm space for the people of Stockport?

The Stockport warm spaces programme is back for this winter! Warm spaces offer a place that residents can spend time without feeling the pressure to spend money, and often offer cost-of-living support and free hot drinks – as well as a warm welcome of course.

Now, Stockport Council has opened its One Stockpot Local Fund for applications from organisations who can open their doors as a warm space. Community organisations from across the borough are invited to apply for grants up to £1000 to either open a warm space or keep their doors open for residents over the winter period.

It’s all part of the One Stockport Warm and Well campaign, a joint initiative across organisations which is designed to keep everyone happy and healthy over the winter months.

Find out more about funding for warm spaces and apply over on the Stockport Council newsroom

Prescription money-saving schemes

NHS England is trying to raise awareness of ways to save money on prescriptions, particularly with those living with long-term conditions.

  • A Prescription Prepayment Certificate saves people money if they pay for more than three items in three months, or 11 items in 12 months.
  • People on a low income could be entitled for help with costs or free prescriptions through the low-income scheme, depending on their circumstances.

Covid and Flu Vaccinations

Eligible people are being urged to get their winter vaccinations for flu and COVID-19 as soon as possible for the best protection.

The adult COVID and flu vaccination programmes have been brought forward following the emergence of a new COVID-19 variant.

Eligible adults can book their COVID-19 vaccination now on the NHS App, on the NHS website or by calling 119 for free if they can’t get online.

Adults can book their flu vaccination through their GP practice or local pharmacy, and some people may be offered their vaccinations directly by a local NHS service.

The flu vaccine is also offered to most children who should get it as soon as they can for their protection and to help stop the virus spreading to others. The children’s flu vaccine is usually given as a quick and painless spray up the nose.

Flu and COVID-19 can be unpleasant. But for many people, particularly those with certain health conditions, older people and pregnant women, they can be very dangerous and even life-threatening. Catching both viruses over winter increases the risk of serious illness even further.

Vaccines are the best protection against both viruses so please share these posts on your social media as appropriate.
