Why we exist
One in four of us will have suicidal thoughts in our life.
We’ve got loads of tools and resources to help people find the support they need, including a life-saving helpline. It's open every day, offering free, anonymous support to anyone affected by suicide or suicidal thoughts.
Our helpline team are there for people who can't see a way forward, people who have lost someone to suicide, and people who are worried about their friends or loved ones. Chats are available over the phone, online and through WhatsApp and they're open to anyone, no matter of gender, background or sexuality.
Our helpline is open 5pm - midnight
Papyrus Hopeline
PAPYRUS is the national charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide.
HOPELINE247 advisers want to work with you to understand why thoughts of suicide might be present. They also want to provide you with a safe space to talk through anything happening in your life that could be impacting on your or anyone else’s ability to stay safe.
- For children and young people under the age of 35 who are experiencing thoughts of suicide
- For anyone concerned that a young person could be thinking about suicide
Young people
Our advisers are all trained to help you focus on staying safe from suicide. Their training enables them to provide advice and support that may help you to move forward and stay alive.
Concerned others
If you are concerned that a young person is feeling suicidal, advisers can support you to start a conversation about suicide and explore options of how best to support them.

Samaritans
Every day, Samaritans respond to around 10,000 calls for help.
They're there, day or night, if you're struggling to cope, need someone to listen without judgement or pressure. They're experienced in listening to people with suicidal thoughts, feelings and plans and are here to support you:
- when you’re desperate or on edge, they can help you get through that moment
- they’ll help you make sense of what you’re feeling
- They can identify other forms of help
They too can help if you know someone who is having thoughts about ending their life. You can contact the Samaritans for emotional support by phone and by email, or you can download their self help app.

Shine a light on suicide
Shine a light on Suicide are bringing suicide out of the dark in Greater Manchester. Whether you’re feeling suicidal, worried someone else is, or have lost someone to suicide, you’re not alone. Whatever you’re going through, we’ll get the support you need.
If you're feeling suicidal, suicidal thoughts are far more common than people realise and can happen for lots of different reasons. Telling someone how you’re feeling is the first step to getting that help, staying safe and getting through this. Shine a light on Suicide highlight local and national organisations that you can chat to including the
Samaritans – a 24/7 helpline on 116 123.

Support After Suicide Partnership
Our vision is that everyone bereaved or affected by suicide is offered timely and appropriate support.
We are on a mission to ensure every area of the UK has excellent, local bereavement support services.
To do this, we equip services with the knowledge and resources they need to deliver excellent support for everyone affected by suicide. This includes creating opportunities to share best practice, creating resources in response to member need, and conducting research.
We also work with national changemakers to make sure that excellent suicide bereavement support is available in every area of the UK.
