Stockport Foodbank - new centre opening this week

Message from Nigel Tedford (Stockport Foodbank)

For some time now we have been conscious that for some, a visit to one of our centres may mean two bus journeys which can often be tricky both logistically and financially. For that reason, we have been looking for a base in the centre of Stockport to provide a central location that will be easily accessible from different parts of Stockport to assist people who are struggling to get to our other centres. We are delighted to announce that we have found a location. From Wednesday 19 October we will have a new centre open at Tiviot Dale Methodist Church, SK1 1TA.

The centre will open on Wednesdays from 2.30pm until 4.30pm. We have updated our red vouchers to show our 8 locations on the reverse but please continue to use the stock of vouchers you currently hold and just inform your clients about the new location. We have updated our map which you can download to display.

Please note there will be no parking available at the Tiviot Dale centre but parking is available in the centre of Stockport from just 90p per hour.

Updates from Stockport Council

Message from Sarah Burke (Stockport Council)

Changes to Adult Social Care Direct Payment Policy

Stockport Council is currently seeking views on proposed changes to its Adult Social Care Direct Payment Policy.   Direct Payments are cash payments made to adults (people aged 18+) who prefer this method of paying for care and support to meet their needs. It enables the person to take ownership of their own care planning by choosing how and when they receive support instead of the council arranging services on their behalf.

The council has reviewed the Direct Payments Policy guidance and identified eight areas that need to change to provide more clarity about how payments can and cannot be spent.  They are seeking views on these changes and on how they can improve the policy to make it clearer and more accessible in the future.

Those affected can take part in the consultation by using this link – please encourage residents to do so. The consultation will close on 6 November 2022.

Let's Light up Lives

Message from The Wellspring

This year on Saturday 22nd October 2022 we are asking for supporters to join us in our annual sponsored Sleepout in Stockport Town Centre.

The Wellspring sponsored Sleepout is a unique event that allows people to get involved in the most active way. We want to raise funds and awareness this year to highlight the work that we do and allow it to continue.

A Small Insight into Homelessness

Let’s be honest right from the start. We know that spending one night without a roof over our heads will in no way give us a full understanding of what it’s really like to be homeless and sleep on the streets.

The challenges that our users face every day are incredibly complex and individual to each person. However, the Sleepout offers an opportunity for us to consider some small elements of how difficult those challenges are.

If we all can take the time to think about the impact that this would have on our lives, then perhaps we may feel inspired to help.

Sign Up and Sleepout!

Anybody over the age of 14 years old is welcome to register for this event. For those under 18 you must be accompanied by an adult. One adult can be responsible for a maximum of two children.

Please ensure that you register with us so we can plan for numbers and logistics.
