Beechwood Cancer Care
Dealing With The Diagnosis And The Impact On The Day-To-Day
At Beechwood, clients will be given guidance and advice on managing the roller coaster and all that goes with it, starting with the smaller things from experiencing fatigue and making sure they’re eating well, to concerns about finances and work. Dealing with the manageable things means we can work together on the bigger picture, understand feelings, and help come to terms with the diagnosis.
Beechwood support
We always take the time to get to know and understand each of our clients individually to offer the right blend of support for each one. We provide a range of services in our care packages such as professional counselling, complementary therapies (available following referral for Beechwood’s Psychological support), discussion groups and one-to-one support.
Beechwood offers a safe place to receive and exchange support and get information and guidance while discussing the unique challenges of being newly diagnosed. By sharing experiences, individuals learn from others who are in (or have been in) similar situations. Beechwood’s support helps clients make sense of what is happening and empowers them to gain a sense of control and a sense of calm. Together, at Beechwood, we can help work towards the new normal.
If our support is something you feel you could benefit from, please do get in touch with us.

Cruse Bereavement Care
One to one support
We offer one to one sessions with one of our trained bereavement supporters. These usually take place over the phone or via a video call. You’ll normally see one of our volunteers between one and six times.
What happens during a session?
In one to one sessions you can explore your grief with your bereavement supporter. You can talk about the person who died, how their death is affecting you, and how you are coping. Using counselling skills, your supporter will help you to understand what you are going through and develop coping strategies.
How can it help me?
One to one support offers a safe, confidential space for you to explore emotions. It helps to you explore feelings and thoughts and make sense of your world. It can be very helpful if you are feeling a lot of distress.
If extra support is needed, the Cruse National helpline, offers emotional support and volunteers will be able to discuss what help is available in your area.

Sands
At Sands, we understand the complex range of emotions there can be when a pregnancy is lost or a baby dies.
We know that everyone is affected differently and that there is no right or wrong way to feel. Each person needs different types of support and this can change over time. Some people may be happy to talk, others might take comfort from quietly reading about others' experiences, while some may prefer to meet face to face and share their experience.
Some of our channels, such as the free national helpline, email support, support chat and resources, are suitable for anyone who has been affected, including parents, other family members, friends, colleagues and health professionals. Other channels, especially our online spaces and local support groups, are best suited to those who have direct personal experience of pregnancy loss or the death of a baby, whether as someone who has been pregnant themselves, or a partner.
There are a number of ways you can contact Sands; the helpline on 0808 164 3332 10am to 3pm Monday to Friday and 6pm to 9pm Tuesday and Thursday evenings., by email and the GriefChat on their website. Sands also offer support through the online and face to face groups and their bereavement app.
