The latest Statement from the Director of Public Health

Message from Alison North (Stockport Council)

This week the DPH statement focuses on long covid and the support available.

Despite a drop in Covid rates over the past fortnight, the fall has begun to level off and we are still seeing very high rates in Stockport, which are currently at 797.5* per 100,000 or around 334.3 per day. See the latest published data online.

Boosters, testing, vaccines and Plan B guidance lifting has been the focus of our social media comms this week.

The ‘Stockport Safe and Well this winter’ campaign is continuing so keep sharing these on your own channels and with your employees. There’s also lots of information and top tips on our dedicated webpages

Engagement Sessions: all-age mental health & wellbeing strategy

Message from Sam Fielding (Stockport Council)

We would like to invite you to share your ideas and priorities for the new all-age mental health and wellbeing strategy that we are developing for Stockport.

When we talked to people about our shared vision and priorities for the One Stockport Borough Plan, supporting people's mental health and wellbeing emerged as a key challenge as we work together to build a better future.  Mental health and wellbeing are shaped in many aspects of our daily lives and are essential to enabling us to thrive as individuals, families and communities. We want to explore with you how we can shape communities, organisations and places that enable and support all of us to look after our own and others’ mental wellbeing.

To help us to develop the strategy, we will deliver a one-hour online workshop on four different days in early February. These dates are:

Tuesday 8th February: 11.00am - 12.00pm

Wednesday 9th February: 4.00 - 5.00pm

Thursday 10th February: 12.30 - 1.30pm

Friday 11th February: 1.00 - 2.00pm

The workshop will include an overview of the developing framework for the strategy, and the opportunity to comment on the draft aims, approach and principles, including a structure for the development of actions. We want to engage with anyone involved in improving mental health and wellbeing in Stockport and we hope you are able to join us for one of them.

You can register your place here

Please do share the link with any colleagues who you feel may wish to participate. The content will be the same for each date and we will send an invitation join to those who have registered.

Can’t make one of these dates?

If you can’t attend one of these dates, please feel free to fill out this survey. An overview of the framework is included in the survey, but you can receive a more detailed presentation by emailing mentalwellbeingstrategy@stockport.gov.uk

Opportunities for future involvement

We will also launch a survey for the wider public, to share their concerns and priorities, and a series of more focused codesign workshops to develop ideas and plans to work together to deliver real changes that will benefit people in Stockport.

Creating a radically digital Stockport

Message from Sarah Burke (Stockport Council)

I just wanted to let you know about Stockport Council’s new Digital Strategy which is being created to set out priority actions for digital across the borough. It’s still in draft and we want feedback from residents, community groups and businesses across the borough to help shape it. You can find out more on the #DigitalStockport website.

I know you’ve helped us in the past by sharing our social media and information with your staff and customers and I wonder if I might ask for your support again. There’s a message below which you could use in your Comms and we would be grateful if your social media team could keep an eye out for our posts to share and the hashtags #OneStockport #DigitalStockport.

Digital is vital to the One Stockport Borough Plan.

Stockport Council are creating a Digital Strategy which sets out the priorities and key future actions around three interdependent areas: Digital Communities, Digital Place and Digital Council. They need your ideas to help shape this. Please visit the #DigitalStockport website to find out more and have your say.

Signpost Stockport For Carers - Activities For Carers - Team About The Place – Heatons & Tame Valley

Message from Stuart Rutter (Signpost for Carers)

As an update, please find attached some of our forthcoming activities for the Stockport area, plus a general service leaflet and referral form.

Please note that these activities are for adult Carers only (by which we mean unpaid adults looking after a family member, friend or other loved one) and are designed to give them a break from their caring roles and a chance to either talk with people in similar situations, Signpost staff or just to take time for themselves. We also have a service called ‘Take a Break’ to help facilitate this (and we have another team working with Young Carers aged 6-25).

To book, Carers first need to register with us – by calling 0161 442 0442 or visiting our website: https://www.signpostforcarers.org.uk/request-to-register-as-a-carer-with-signpost/

Alternatively, if you would like to refer someone into our service yourself you can use the attached referral form and send it to info@signpostforcarers.org.uk

and then either call 0161 442 0442 or email carersconnect@signpostforcarers.org.uk. This allows us to contact them with details of the session and alert them to any changes or cancellations.

Stockport County - County’s Adult Active Group

Message from Matthew Bailey (Stockport County Community Trust)

County Community Trust is delighted in announcing a brand-new project “County’s Adult Active Group” The project will provide opportunities for vulnerable people to meet up and socialise and join in and play football delivered by highly trained coaches.

The session will take place at the Power League Centre, Heaton Mersey from 10.30 am – 12.30 pm with the first session starting on Monday 7th February, refreshment provided.

We aim to reach out and support people in the community living with long-term health and mental health conditions, maybe experiencing loneliness, and living in social isolation by providing opportunities to make a positive difference in their lives, improving health and mental well-being, confidence and self-esteem and trying to improve their general fitness and helping to make long-term lifestyle changes and to improve their quality of life.

The session is free of charge and will last for 2 hours with the 1 hour based on football and fitness and the second is for service users to sit down relax and have a chat with other members of the group. The aim of the session is to bring other organisations and services to speak to the group and offer help, support, and advice.

I would appreciate it if you can promote the session to all your service users as this is a free session with free refreshments provided.

Please find attached the flyer and if you need any more information, please don’t hesitate to give me a call on 07816127588.
